The use of water quality index and water pollution index in assessing the water quality and suitability of the river Molo water basin, Kenya

Water quality assessment has become a very essential scientific procedure for qualifying water drinking and general purpose use, better public health policy on clean supply. Various tools have been employed to determine the status of systems drinking, industrial use. For this study, index (WQI) recently developed pollution (WPI) adopted evaluate Molo basin. The world organization (WHO) defined limits these parameters beyond which is considered unsuitable specific study was carried out in December, 2021 during dry season. In contribution, pH, conductivity, TDS, salinity, major cations anions, selected heavy metals were explored. Of Na reported highest concentration at 1800 mg/L whereas anion category, Cl gave 110 mg/L. TDS salinity 8.5, 146.33, 282.67, respectively. data obtained used basin based standards. average WQI 57.47 indicating that slightly polluted. Also WPI 0.77 from not good quality.
